Fick precis ett mail från en PR-konsult i England som vill att jag ska skriva om något nytt skydd för Mac-ägare, kallat Linkscanner. Ännu en produkt som utvecklats för att sedan hitta en målgrupp.

Detta stycke i mailet fångade min uppmärksamhet:

I have included the press release at the bottom of this e-mail for your reference. We also have an interesting article about ‘Mac v PC’ for you, if you are interested. The article discusses the general consensus among consumers being that Mac’s can’t be infected with malware. Few people seem to be aware that the first computer virus was actually developed for Mac’s.

Påståendet ovan är alltså inte sant, och även om det kan skyllas på en överentusiastisk PR-konsult så lär kunden, i det här fallet AVG, ha läst och godkänt pressreleasen.

Det första datorviruset som spreds i större mängder hette Elk Cloner och skrevs 1982 av en ung herre vid namn Rick Skrenta. Han skrev viruset på sin Apple II-dator och det spred sig sedan via Apple DOS version 3.3.

AVG gör alltså företag som Symantec, McAffee, Kaspersky, med flera sällskap.

… behöver inte Apple anstränga sig nämnvärt:

Dell shipped around 11.8 million OptiPlex computers between the May 2003 to July 2005 period that were at risk of failing because of the faulty components, according to the unsealed court and internal documents. Dell sold OptiPlex desktops to companies and business customers including Wal-Mart and Wells Fargo. The problems stem from bad capacitors on motherboards. which could cause systems to fail. The documents also say that Dell employees knowingly tried to play down component problems, which put customers at risk. Dell salespeople were told to say “don’t bring this to customer’s attention proactively,” in an effort to conceal system problems, according to the documents reported on by the Times.

Det ska sägas att Apple har ett och annat misslyckande på sitt samvete, men detta är ju inget mindre än en skandal, även om det hände för mellan 5-7 år sedan.

Apple:

Make sure that your applications are compatible with iOS 4. All new applications and updates to existing applications must be built with iPhone SDK 4. In addition, the App Store will no longer support applications that target iOS 2.x.

Det var väl bara en tidsfråga antar jag, men nu börjar man också se att den gamla iPhone 2G-modellens dagar definitivt är räknade. Därmed inte sagt att den är värdelös, fortfarande en kanontelefon i mitt tycke.

Om du kör iOS 4 mot en Exchange-server är detta särskilt intressant för dig.

Oftast är det kalendersynkningen som inte fungerar. Detta problem kan också uppstå på Mac OS X 10.6.4 i kombination med Exchange 2007-server, för övrigt.

Man måste berömma Apple: när de har bestämt sig för att de har rätt, så har de rätt:

1. Keep all of the positioning statements in the BN handy – your tone when delivering this information is important. a. The iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. Our testing shows that iPhone 4’s overall antenna performance is better than iPhone 3GS. b. Gripping almost any mobile phone in certain places will reduce its reception. This is true of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, and many other phones we have tested. It is a fact of life in the wireless world. c. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 3GS, avoid covering the bottom-right side with your hand. d. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 4, avoid covering the black strip in the lower-left corner of the metal band. e. The use of a case or Bumper that is made out of rubber or plastic may improve wireless performance by keeping your hand from directly covering these areas. 2. Do not perform warranty service. Use the positioning above for any customer questions or concerns. 3. Don’t forget YOU STILL NEED to probe and troubleshoot. If a customer calls about their reception while the phone is sitting on a table (not being held) it is not the metal band. 4. ONLY escalate if the issue exists when the phone is not held AND you cannot resolve it. 5. We ARE NOT appeasing customers with free bumpers – DON’T promise a free bumper to customers.

Är Microsoft på gång att utveckla Office för iPhone? Det är en aning långsökt, inget snack om saken.

Microsoft är i full färd med att utveckla en mobil version av Office kallad Office Mobile till Nokias smartphones och söker utvecklare till detta.

I jobbannonsen som nu är raderad, fanns följande text:

“In addition to the current Windows Mobile 6.5 and upcoming WM7 clients, with the recently announced alliance between Microsoft and Nokia we are working to bring Office Mobile to hundreds of millions of Nokia smartphone owners, followed by other leading Smartphone platforms.”

Huruvida de andra ledande smartphoneplattformarna inkluderar iPhone är givetvis helt oklart, även om ett antal lösa rykten tyder på det, men det finns ju inte så många andra plattformar kvar att utveckla för. Android? Tror inte det. Blackberry? Kanske. Då återstår ju bara iPhone…
