AT&T: USA:s ackumulerade dumhet

Som tidigare nämts både här och där har ju den amerikanska telekomoperatören AT&T enorma prestandaproblem i sitt 3G-nät i New York. Men istället för att ta tag i problemet och bygga ut nätet ordentligt gör AT&T det enda de kan komma på: de slutar sälja iPhone, som AT&T tycks anse är källan till prestandaproblemen, i New York:

Daphne: Welcome to AT&T online Sales support. How may I assist you with placing your order today?

Laura: Hi, I was looking at the iPhone 3Gs and the system tells me that I cannot order one in my ZIP code. My zip code is 11231. (Brooklyn, NY) Is this true? Are iPhones no longer available in New York City?

Daphne: I am happy to be helping you today . Yes, this is correct the phone is not offered to you because New York is not ready for the iPhone.

Daphne: You don’t have enough towers to handle the phone.

Laura: Thank you for your help. So the phone is not available to people anywhere in the city?

Daphne: Yes this is correct Laura.

AT&T får Telenor att framstå som kompetenta. Och då är det illa.

Dock har det senare visat sig att det går att köpa iPhone i New York, men inte online:

Then I tried one last time and gave a different Brooklyn zipcode. The sales rep again told me the online store was “currently out of stock” and that “you have to go into the store.”

It appears that AT&T’s phone and online orders come from a different warehouse (duh) than the ones which service its stores.
